Hurricane Gustav

My dear friend Donna says I'm the only person she knows that does major home improvement/decorating projects while everyone else is preparing for a hurricane. The week after Hurricane Katrina, I (this would include my husband) painted the master bath.

Today while everyone else was hunkering down, getting ready for the storm. I was putting the final touches on drapes for MY master bedroom. Baked a batch of brownies too.

Will post a picture later.

Stay safe, the rain has started here!

Nailhead Cornice

This really was so simple! Once the pieces were cut it only took 1 1/2 hours to assemble. Then the greek key tape was adhered and nailheads were applied.

Smocked Balloon Valance

Why is it that the best pictures are ALWAYS the ones that were taken before the treatment is fluffed and dressed? Anyway, this is a great example of lattice smocking. This look is achieved by marking a grid on the reverse of the flat valance after the widths are seamed together. Then the intersections are stitched resulting in this wonderful smocked front. Amazingly this is only 1 1/2 times fullness. A smaller lattice would require a smaller grid and for reasons I can't explain more fullness.
